There’s a new coach at the helm in Houston.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Ime Udoka has agreed to a deal to take over as the Rockets’ next head coach.
The job in Houston has been vacant since April 9, when the team announced it would not be picking up the fourth-year option on Stephen Silas’ contract. Silas compiled a 59-117 overall record in three seasons with the team, including a 22-60 record this season — tied for the second-worst in the NBA.
Udoka has been out of the NBA since 2022. He was suspended by the Celtics for the entirety of the 2022-23 season due to violations of team policies stemming from a relationship with a female staff member.
“The Boston Celtics announced today that the team has suspended Head Coach Ime Udoka for the 2022-23 season for violations of team policies,” the team said in a statement. “A decision about his future with the Celtics beyond this season will be made at a later date.”

In his one and only season as an NBA head coach, Udoka led Boston to a 51-31 regular season record and an appearance in the 2022 NBA Finals. The team ultimately fell to the Warriors in six games to come up just short of a championship.
