World No. 1 Iga Swiatek was dead honest following her shock Miami Open round-of-16 exit as the Pole admitted she expected a better run and to play better at the tournament.
On Monday, 2022 Miami champion Swiatek saw her 2024 campaign at the tournament finish earlier than expected following a loss to world No. 16 Ekaterina Alexandrova, Not only that Swiatek lost to Alexandrova, but she got dismantled as the 14th-seeded Russian was the one dictating everything and ousted the top-seeded Pole with just five lost games 6-4 6-1.
Swiatek, who won Indian Wells two weeks earlier and came to Miami as the top favorite and with the hopes of completing the Sunshine Double for the second time in her career, definitely didn’t envision her Miami run ending the way it did.
“Disappointed for sure because I thought I was going to play better here in Miami,” Swiatek said after her shock Miami exit, via the WTA website.
“But she played an amazing match and for sure, she was the better player out there today. Her serve, I had a hard time reading it. I got a little bit tense when I couldn’t return well.”
