Iga Swiatek is enjoying her Madrid campaign as she called the Spanish capital “really beautiful.” Swiatek, 21, made her Madrid debut two years ago when she made the round-of-16 before losing to Ashleigh Barty. Last year, Swiatek came to Madrid but pulled out of the tournament due to an injury.
This year, Swiatek is making her second Madrid appearance and she is having a thrill. “The courts are pretty amazing, the whole facility is great. You feel like it’s new and innovative and there’s a lot of technology, which is nice.
And the fans are really happy and enthusiastic. This is the first time I’m staying a little bit closer to the city centre of Madrid so I’m able to do a bit of sightseeing and the city is amazing. When I was here two years ago it was during Covid, so we were stuck in the hotel.
So right now I’m really enjoying it and Madrid is really beautiful,” Swiatek said.
Swiatek routinely handled Pera
On Sunday, first-seeded Swiatek claimed a routine 6-3 6-2 win against Pera. Swiatek made a bit of a slow start to the match as Pera broke the Pole in the third game for a 2-1 lead.
