Iga Swiatek reveals players have actually advised the WTA on what they maybe could do to attract larger crowds around the world. On Wednesday, world No 2 Swiatek claimed a 6-0 7-5 win over Coco Gauff at the WTA Finals in Cancun.
Swiatek and Gauff are among the top-3 players in the world – widely considered one of the best in the game – but the stands for their match were far from being full. Swiatek is not happy seeing empty stands in Cancun and she decided to address the issue after improving to 2-0 in Cancun.
Addressing the issue, Swiatek said that waiting until September to announce the host city for the WTA Finals was probably a mistake. “Honestly, I think there’s plenty they can do. It’s a pretty weird situation where we have meetings with the WTA and we kind of explain to them what should be done sometimes.
For sure, there’s potential to work on that. Obviously, they decided late that we’re going to play here. For sure, you know the marketing should be better. It’s a shame that we don’t have a full stadium like we can’t really feel like we’re on a tennis celebration for the whole week,” Swiatek said.
