Iga Swiatek says she realized the top players were “treated differently” when she became the world No 1 and suggested that wanting to be a leader for all players was the reason why she criticized the WTA in several instances.
Swiatek, who broke into the top-10 for the first time just before her 20nd birthday in 2021 May, reached the world No 1 spot for the first time on April 4th, 2022. Since establishing herself as one of the best players in the world, Swiatek seemingly noticed that the way she was treated changed for the better.
This year, Swiatek criticized the long and demanding WTA calendar and made it clear that their plans for the future will only make it worse for the players. Also, Swiatek called out late finishes in tennis and criticized the 2023 WTA Finals organization.
