Iga Swiatek shares her real feelings after the WTA Finals triumph

Iga Swiatek won the title at the WTA Finals, simply annihilating Jessica Pegula in the final. This victory allowed the Polish champion to close the year as the new queen of women’s tennis, ousting Aryna Sabalenka at WTA sport no.1.

During the on court interview, Iga shared his happiness for the victory, saying: “It’s hard not to think about stuff like that. Today was like a highlight of this mental approach, just being narrow with your head, only thinking about the right stuff.” Pegula told after the defeat: “She clearly really wanted that ranking.

I mean, you could tell by the way she was competing here. She was, like today, crushing people. She had an amazing year.”

The match

The Polish tennis player found a rather unique way to win the WTA Finals for the first time in her career and set a record that is difficult to even imagine.

The Warsaw native dominated the tournament from the first match to the last and lost only 20 games on her way to the title: no one has done better than her since the Round-Robin format was introduced in 2003. The point of reference, in this sense, was the 32 games left by Serena Williams in 2012.
