Iga Swiatek, 22, says she found “some joy in playing on grass” during this year’s grass season. Swiatek, ranked at No 1 in the world, entered this year’s grass season without ever making it past the round-of-16 in a grass tournament.
But in her first grass tournament of the year, Swiatek made the Bad Homburg semifinal before food poisoning forced her to withdraw from the semis. After reaching her first grass semifinal in Bad Homburg, Swiatek also made her first Wimbledon quarterfinal.
In the Wimbledon quarterfinal, Swiatek’s run came to an end following a surprise three-set defeat to Elina Svitolina. After a positive grass season that left Swiatek feeling “proud” of herself, the Pole plans to switch her mind off tennis by going on a short trip.
