Iga Swiatek saves MP in miraculous comeback vs Naomi Osaka

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has just created a miraculous comeback to beat former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka 7-6 (1) 1-6 7-5 in the French Open second round.

After edging out Lucia Bronzetti in a tight first-round match, Osaka said she would be “honored” to play Swiatek in the second round, Osaka ultimately got her wish and came inches away from achieving her biggest win since starting her comeback.

But with Osaka leading 5-3 in the second set, Swiatek managed to save a match point – break back Osaka – and keep her hopes of a French Open three-peat alive. 

For Osaka, not realizing a match point on her serve was too much to overcome as Swiatek went on win five games in a row from 2-5 down and set up a third-round meeting against either Marie Bouzkova or Jana Fett.

How Swiatek came back to beat Osaka?

Early in the first set, Swiatek missed out on a break point but also saved a break point in the following game. After a couple of missed break point chances, Swiatek earned the first break of the match in the eighth game but Osaka got that break back in the eighth game to tie the opener to four games apiece.
