Iga Swiatek rolls into maiden SF in the Spanish capital

Iga Swiatek was ruthless on yet another day to notch yet another win. The world no. 1 needed only 69 minutes to wrap up a 6-0, 6-3 win over Petra Martic in the quarter-finals of the Mutua Madrid Open on Wednesday. Swiatek won 77% of her first-serve points to the Croatian’s 63%.

She also won 59% of her second-serve points while winning a whopping 92% points on return on the 27th seed’s second serve. Swiatek faced only one break point that she saved successfully. She also converted all four break points she faced on Martic’s serve.

For the match, Swiatek had three more winners than Martic’s eight and nine fewer unforced errors than the latter’s 17. Post-match, Swiatek said, “I feel like I’m playing better and better every day. This is pretty great, because I didn’t know if that was going to be possible at the beginning of the tournament.

But I was patient and I was hoping to get that feeling, and today was for sure a good day”.
