Iga Swiatek suggested she became very emotional after winning Beijing because she needed such a result after everything that happened to her at the US Open. After completing a 6-2 6-2 win over Liudmila Samsonova for the Beijing title, Swiatek burst into tears.
After suffering a disappointing US Open round-of-16 loss and also losing the world No 1 spot, doubts started to creep into the Pole’s mind. “I cried a little after winning because I know how hard it is to stay positive and stay focused on the future.
Maybe not to all of them, but for me. I have felt immense support from my team in recent weeks. I am very grateful for that. During the match I didn’t think about anything, I wanted to focus on tennis,” Swiatek said after the final.
The Beijing title more than just another title for Swiatek
Evidently, Swiatek wasn’t in a great place after everything that happened at the US Open. But after putting up a major run in Beijing and winning the title, Swiatek proved to herself that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and that things can quickly change for the better.
