Iga Swiatek appeared to be stunned after hearing about “a bee invasion” in Indian Wells as the world No. 1 funnily admitted she would just run away if it happened in her match.
On Thursday, Swiatek was in action as she had a 6-4 1-0 lead over Caroline Wozniacki when the Danish former world No. 1 retired due to a right foot injury.
After the Swiatek and Wozniacki match finished, Carlos Alcaraz and Carlos Alcaraz were next on the court. But not even three full games into the match, a swarm of boos stormed onto the court, which led to a nearly two-hour delay during which bees were being carefully removed with a vacuum. During the incident, Alcaraz got stung on the forehead.
While it was happening on the court, Swiatek was in the press room conducting her post-match press conference.
“I’m glad I’m not there anymore,” Swiatek said.
