Jessica Pegula says Iga Swiatek is “definitely not invincible” in her mind. Pegula, ranked at a career-high ranking of No 3 in the world, has played against Swiatek seven times. Swiatek has had more success, beating Pegula five times in their seven meetings.
Pegula acknowledged that Swiatek has been doing some very impressive things but underlined that she does not consider the Pole unbeatable. “She’s definitely not invincible in my mind. I have played her in pretty close matches.
But obviously with her winning, you know, a lot of matches and the streak she went on last year, yeah, she definitely was feeling it for a while there. But it definitely helps. I think it helps just knowing what I have to do to win, knowing what worked, what didn’t work,” Pegula said, per Sportskeeda.
Pegula crushed Swiatek earlier this year
Pegula defeated Swiatek in their first meeting in 2019 before the Pole won each of their four meetings last year. After losing to Swiatek four times in 2022, Pegula crushed Swiatek 6-2 6-2 at the inaugural United Cup.
