Iga Swiatek says she doesn’t know what the future can bring but highlighted that her pulling an Ashleigh Barty and retiring at a very young age is highly unlikely to happen. In 2022 March, the then WTA world No 1 Barty shockingly walked away from pro tennis at the age of 25.
At the time, Barty was coming off her third Grand Slam win at the Australian Open and she was widely considered the best player in women’s tennis. But Barty lost motivation for the sport and she thought that continuing like that would make no sense.
Since Barty’s retirement, 22-year-old Swiatek has achieved the most in women’s tennis as the Pole is ranked at No 1 and has won three Grand Slams since.

“Nobody knows what the future will bring.
We can’t control everything. Ash had achieved so much that she had every right to take such a step. I don’t know if I would have the courage to make a similar decision. I would probably keep playing, keep trying. On the other hand, I know that each year can be more challenging.
