Iga Swiatek jokes Hubert Hurkacz is a new chef in the Iga Swiatek bakery as the world No. 1 hilariously remarked that her bakery also works on New Year’s Eve while others are closed. On Sunday, Swiatek and Hurkacz sealed Poland’s win over Spain by beating Sara Sorribes Tormo and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-0 6-0 at the United Cup.
Over the last two years, Swiatek has won nearly 50 sets in singles matches with a 6-0 scoreline. After delivering 22 bagel sets in 2022, Swiatek won 23 sets with a 6-0 scoreline last season.
Swiatek’s impressive bagel numbers led to fans creating an imaginary Iga Swiatek bakery and often photoshopping the Pole in a chef uniform and serving out bagels.
“Well, I’m happy that I’ve somebody right now… Another chef in the bakery so… No, I’m kidding. I mean on Twitter it said that ‘Bakery should be closed on New Year’s Eve’, but here we are,” Swiatek joked during her on-court interview.
