Iga Swiatek suggests the 2023 season was a great learning experience and also showed great appreciation for her competition, describing them as “amazing women.” After a few rough months, Swiatek capped off her 2023 season by winning a WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing – claiming her first WTA Finals title – and also returning to the world No 1 spot.
The 2023 season didn’t start well for Swiatek, who lost to Elena Rybakina in the Australian Open round-of-16. Swiatek managed to defend her French Open title but then disappointingly lost to Elina Svitolina in the Wimbledon quarterfinal.
At the US Open, Swiatek – who was the defending champion – suffered a shock round-of-16 loss to Jelena Ostapenko and also lost the world No 1 ranking to Aryna Sabalenka. In the end, Swiatek won a total of six titles in 2023 and managed to regain the world No 1 ranking.
