Iga Swiatek has once again refused to compare herself to Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros as the Pole stated that the Spaniard is “above everybody” at the French Open.
On Thursday, world No. 1 Swiatek saw off third-seeded Coco Gauff 6-2 6-4 to make her fourth French Open final.
Swiatek – who turned 23 on May 31st – will have a chance to make it four out of four in her finals at Roland Garros when she meets Jasmine Paolini on Saturday. Previously, Swiatek made it all the way at Roland Garros in 2020, 2022, and 2023. Also if Swiatek wins this year’s French Open final, she will have four titles in six appearances at Roland Garros.
When it comes to Nadal – who is a record 14-time French Open champion – he won titles at Roland Garros in five of his six first appearances at Roland Garros.
Swiatek on being compared to Nadal at the French Open
“We will see in 14 years if the journey is similar, I mean it’s obviously very nice to me. I would never expect anyone to compare me to Rafa because for me he is above everybody and he is a total legend. We will see in a couple of years, but I am proud of myself that I am playing consistently here and that I’m mentioned in the same sentence as Rafa. That’s cool,” Swiatek explained.
