Tennis is also beautiful because it can give indescribable emotions. All the players have been through it: from icemen and icewomen to the most emotional tennis players.
The dramatic final of the Mutua Madrid Open won by Iga Swiatek against Aryna Sabalenka gave the crowd at the Manolo Santana Stadium one such moment.
The Polish player took revenge on the Belarusian. Aryna was in fact able to beat her last year in the final of the WTA 1000 in the Spanish capital. Swiatek won the Mutua Madrid Open for the first time, winning with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(7) a battle that lasted three hours and 11 minutes of play.
For the WTA No.1 – who saved three match points – this is the 20th title of her career, the 9th in a WTA 1000 and the third of the season, after Indian Wells and Doha. Swiatek thus completed winning every major women’s clay court event and, at 22, she became the youngest tennis player to win 20 tournaments on the WTA Tour since Caroline Wozniacki in 2012.
As mentioned, the most exciting moment came in the last rally of the match. After winning the challenge, Iga broke down in tears on the court, visibly emotional at having won a challenge that had seen her on the brink.
A dramatic and exciting…
