There was a lot of anticipation for the semifinal match of the WTA Finals in Cancun, which could also be worth the top of the WTA rankings, between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek. But initially the confrontation lasted very little and was postponed until the following day.
Only three games on the court for the two, with the Pole ahead 2-1 (and 30-30 on the Belarusian’s serve) but she had already had to face a break point. The organizers have announced the program: priority for doubles, they will close Swiatek-Sabalenka before the doubles final.
Despite this, the semi-final was finally completed, and Iga Swiatek then beat her rival, bringing herself just one match away from coming back as world no.1. The Pole defeated the Belarusian with the final score of 6-3 6-2, preparing to face the North American Jessica Pegula in the final today.
