Iga Swiatek says she plans to learn from the examples of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic and react like they would in her current situation. In the US Open round-of-16, Swiatek suffered a shock loss to Jelena Ostapenko and the Pole has lost the world No 1 ranking.

On April 4th, 2022, Swiatek took the throne from Ashleigh Barty. After 75 consecutive weeks at the top spot, Swiatek will be ranked at No 2 next Monday as Aryna Sabalenka is set to be the new top-ranked player in the women’s game.

Swiatek, 22, is entering a new territory now as she has lost the world No 1 position for the first time in her career. “It was great [to be No 1], but on the other hand the last part was pretty exhausting. I still need to do what all these great players like Roger or Novak or Rafa are talking about, you just have to focus on the tournaments not the rankings,” Swiatek said.
