Iga Swiatek thinks there are double stands in how people judge men and women showing emotions and admitted that she is always to hear comments such as “Swiatek is done” and “her career is over.” Swiatek, 22, is considered the best player in women’s tennis but even she is no stranger to emotional outbursts on the court.
During a 2021 WTA Finals match against Maria Sakkari, the emotions got the better of Swiatek and she started crying on the court. After losing to Jessica Pegula at the United Cup earlier this year, Swiatek broke down in tears.
Afterward, Swiatek received some criticism for crying after a defeat. On one occasion, Swiatek admitted to feeling “ashamed” of crying on the court because she thought that’s not the way a great champion should be.
