Bianca Andreescu said she didn’t feel she deserved to be in the 2021 Miami Open final but this year it’s a completely different story. Andreescu, 22, was 6-3 4-0 down to Ashleigh Barty in the 2021 Miami Open final when she retired the match.
On Sunday, Andreescu defeated 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin 6-4 6-4 to reach the Miami round-of-16. “Last time I played here in 2021, I did not enjoy myself. I did not feel that I deserved to be in that final.
But this year, I feel like a totally different person & I definitely feel like I deserve to be here right now,” Andreescu said.
Andreescu believes she has not yet unlocked 100% of her potential
In 2019, Andreescu won the US Open and two WTA 1000 titles.
A bit shockingly, Andreescu hasn’t won any titles since 2019. But after the 2019 season, Andreescu started battling injuries and mental health issues. In 2022 April, Andreescu returned to tennis after taking a break to address her mental health.
Since returning to tennis, Andreescu has been gradually improving her game and returning to her old form. Andreescu is happy about her progress but also noted that she believes she can do much better than she is currently showing.
“I feel like there’s always room for improvement even if I’m feeling like I’m at 100…
