The women’s tennis tour moves to Saudi Arabia for the season finale as the eight best players of the year compete at the 53rd edition of the WTA Finals in Riyadh, starting on November 2.
The King Saud University Indoor Arena will be hosting the event as the competition will be held in Saudi Arabia for the first time.
World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka, the Australian Open and US Open champion, will be a favourite to win the year-ender for the first time. But the top seed will be challenged by defending champion Iga Swiatek.
World no 3 Coco Gauff, the 2023 US Open champion has also qualified for the event, as has Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, who ended as runner-up at both the French Open and Wimbledon Championships this year.
Former Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina and this year’s US Open runner-up Jessica Pegula are also in the fray, as is Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng of China.
The last player to make the cut is Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova, while Emma Navarro and Daria Kasatkina have been named as reserves.
