Women’s volleyball is settling into conference play, and a top-five matchup between Stanford and Louisville is sure to heat things up this week.
No. 3 Stanford has been establishing itself as a powerhouse yet again, starting the season with a record of 8-1. The Cardinal have won some big matches, but the Nebraska Cornhuskers finally handed them their first loss in a sweep last week.
In a bit of a rocky 3-1 win against No. 11 Kentucky last week, Stanford proved it can be dominant even when it’s not playing its cleanest volleyball. Outside hitter Ella Rubin tallied an astounding 21 kills and helped out in the back row with eight digs.
No. 5 Louisville is coming off of a mirror 3-0 loss to No. 2 Nebraska, in which the Cardinals committed 25 hitting errors and were held to a .133 overall percentage. The Cardinals have a strong squad with outside Anna DeBeer and libero Elena Scott, but they weren’t to outpace the Huskers this time.
The Cardinal and the Cardinals are going head-to-head — who will move up the ranks?
