The first step toward crowning a winner in the NCAA women’s golf championship begins Wednesday with the selection show.
Teams across the country will learn their fate as the committee reveals the 72-team field as well as the splits for the six regional sites. After regional play, only the five top-scoring teams will advance to the finals, which are slated to begin May 16.
Stanford is set to enter this year’s tournament as the favorite, touting the No. 1 overall ranking in the latest poll. The Cardinal have set the standard for the sport, winning two of the last three NCAA women’s golf championships. Should Stanford win this year’s event, it will become the first program to win back-to-back titles since Duke won three straight in 2005-07.
Other contenders include No. 2 Arkansas, No. 3 Florida State, No. 4 South Carolina and No. 5 Oregon.
On the individual front, Florida State’s Mirabel Ting will pace the field. She leads the nation in individual wins and average weighted points.
