Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark scored 20 points and had 10 turnovers in her WNBA debut against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday. The Fever lost, 92-71, and they will now turn their attention toward the New York Liberty, who are looking to reach the WNBA Finals for the second consecutive year.
Clark broke the WNBA record for turnovers in a debut game, struggling against the Sun’s swarming defense in a team-high 32 minutes. She did manage to hit four 3-pointers, though she only shot 5-of-15 from the field overall.
The New York Liberty are coming off an 85-80 win against the Washington Mystics in their season opener. Jonquel Jones scored 25 points in the victory, and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton was right behind Jones with 20 points of her own. Sabrina Ionescu was in triple-double territory with 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
Clark will continue to be tested against the best as she goes up against Ionescu, Jones and Breanna Stewart for the first time. The turnover totals will need to come down, but there’s little doubt that Clark will adjust in time.
