What a difference a few days makes.
After a tepid, scoreless draw between the United States women’s national team and Colombia on Thursday, the U.S. put in a much more enthusiastic performance against the same opponent on Sunday. Mia Fishel and Jaedyn Shaw scored their first international goals in their second appearances, and Lindsey Horan added a thunderous volley for a 3-0 U.S. victory.
Admittedly, it was far from perfect. Colombia was slightly depleted — including without Linda Caicedo, who departed for Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris — and the Americans remain in limbo without a coach. But the U.S. finally showed signs of being the team that once dominated opponents on and off the ball.
