Emma Raducanu has plummeted 17 spots on this week’s updated WTA rankings list as the Briton is now ranked at No 85 in the world. Raducanu, 20, entered last Monday ranked at No 68 in the world. In 2022, Raducanu made the quarterfinal at a WTA 500 event in Stuttgart.
Last week, Raducanu returned to Stuttgart knowing she would have to win at least two matches and reach the quarterfinal again in order not to lose any points. But Raducanu’s Stuttgart campaign was short-lived as the Briton was ousted by Jelena Ostapenko in the first round 6-2 6-1.
After dropping points in Stuttgart, Raducanu plummeted to No 85 this Monday.
Raducanu now has a solid number of points to defend in Madrid
This week, Raducanu will be returning to action at the Madrid Open. Last year, Raducanu reached the Madrid round-of-16.
If Raducanu loses in the Madrid first round or early at the tournament, she would drop a solid number of points and exit the top-100. In the Madrid first round, Raducanu will be taking on a qualifier. If Raducanu beats a qualifier, next up for her would be world No 1 Iga Swiatek.
