11 days after a wrist injury sidelined him, Pete Alonso got back into the Mets lineup on Sunday.
Alonso, MLB’s home run leader when he was hurt before being overtaken by Shohei Ohtani, returned to the lineup in Sunday’s 8-7 loss against the Cardinals with an 0-for-4 day. He has 22 home runs on the season to date. Alonso went to IL with a wrist injury he suffered from being hit by a pitch from Charlie Morton.
Offensive continues to be an issue for the Mets this year, as they seek any kind of consistency in what has proven to be a competitive NL East. The Braves are the team to catch, and the Mets — 33-38 on the season thus far — are a ways out from doing so.

Alonso is batting .227 with 22 home runs through 63 games this season. While he hasn’t been as much of a contact hitter as he was last season, Alonso has his highest OPS (.857) since 2019 thanks to an early-season home run binge.
How long is Pete Alonso out?
Alonso returned to the Mets order Sunday, ending an 11-day absence from the team.
While Alonso avoided a fracture, there was still enough damage to keep him out of the lineup beyond the 10 days the IL placement requires.
