Caitlin Clark wasted no time turning Carver-Hawkeye Arena into one massive black-and-gold party. She went on a quick scoring spree to quickly break the NCAA women’s college basketball scoring record on Thursday night against Michigan. The Iowa star surpassed the mark less than three minutes into the contest in Iowa City, hitting a deep 3-pointer for the record.

She started the game needing only 8 points to surpass former Washington star Kelsey Plum, who set the previous record in 2017. Clark looked in a hurry to get it over with … and then didn’t stop scoring. She had 23 points in the first quarter and finished with a program-record 49 points. She hit a career-high nine 3-pointers. The performance was symbolic of how Clark has put on a show throughout her career.

Clark moved past Jackie Stiles and Kelsey Mitchell into second place on Jan. 31 at Northwestern, when she also became the Big Ten’s leading scorer. Here’s where the point totals stand after Iowa’s first quarter:

1. Clark, Iowa (2020-2024): 3,569

2. Plum, Washington (2013-17): 3,527 career points

3. Mitchell, Ohio State (2014-18): 3,402

4. Stiles, Missouri State (1997-2001): 3,393
