LSU women’s basketball has hit a rough patch. The defending national champions have lost three out of their last five games and two games in a row for the first time since 2022.
The losing skid has left the fans in Baton Rouge looking for answers — just like Hailey Van Lith.
The graduate transfer from Louisville summed up the Tigers’ recent struggles perfectly during the Tigers’ 77-73 loss to Mississippi State on Monday. Van Lith was visibly confused during a timeout when head coach Kim Mulkey was drawing up plays for LSU, which trailed by six points with 37 seconds left in the contest.

The Tigers failed to mount a comeback, dropping their second consecutive game and fourth of the season. Mulkey’s crew has already doubled its loss total this campaign (4) compared to the entire 2022-23 season (2).
Van Lith’s transition from Louisville to LSU has not been as smooth as expected. After serving as the focal point of the Cardinals’ offense for three seasons, the guard is averaging less than 10 shots per game for the first time since her freshman year.
