Former Louisville guard Hailey Van Lith has committed to LSU, she announced via social media Thursday. Here’s what you need to know:
- Van Lith, who joins the reigning champions with two seasons of eligibility remaining, ranks No. 1 in The Athletic’s tracker of the top prospects in the transfer portal.
- The junior averaged 19.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists while playing nearly 37 minutes a game for the Cardinals in 2022-23.
- Louisville went 26-12 in 2022-23, reaching the Elite Eight for the fifth consecutive time.

Why the move makes sense
She’s an obvious fit at LSU, which needed to add guard depth after starters Alexis Morris and Jasmine Carson both exhausted their eligibility. Van Lith can act as a point guard or off-ball guard, facilitating and scoring, as well as being tough to spot in transition and in the mid-range.
She also gives the Tigers an outside shooting threat, which — despite their national championship game performance — wasn’t a huge strength for LSU this season. Though she struggled from beyond the 3-point line this past season, Van Lith shot 38 percent and 26 percent from beyond the arc as a freshman and sophomore, respectively. — Jennings
