LINCOLN, Neb. — Greg Sharpe, the radio voice of Nebraska football and baseball, died after a yearlong fight against pancreatic cancer, his family announced Saturday.
Sharpe, 61, called Nebraska football games on the school’s radio network since late in the 2007 season. He started with the baseball program in 2008. Sharpe announced his cancer diagnosis last April and continued to work on the broadcasts during the 2024 season, traveling to several of the Huskers’ games away from Memorial Stadium as his treatment schedule allowed.
“The love shown to him during this difficult time truly touched Greg and our family,” his wife, Amy, and three daughters said in a statement released by Nebraska. “We are forever grateful to Husker fans everywhere for the letters, gifts, and of course, prayers.
“We are all better for having had Greg in our lives.”
In a recent ceremony, Nebraska named its radio broadcast booth in Sharpe’s honor.
