Major event groups The Great Run Company, London Marathon Events and UK Athletics set up new joint project, Athletic Ventures
UK Athletics (UKA), The Great Run Company (GRC) and London Marathon Events (LME) have teamed up to create Athletic Ventures, an innovative new model that focusses on athletics events.
TGRC, famous for the world’s biggest half marathon The Great North Run, and London Marathon Events are no strangers to putting on large-scale sporting events, but this new venture with UKA will focus more on athletics, including delivering the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham and the annual edition of the Diamond League in the UK.
Athletic Ventures plans to offer a range of events, from grassroots activities to national events, including a new ‘playground to podium’ sponsorship programme aiming to ‘transform the future of athletics in this country’.
“Athletics is the most watched sport at the Olympic and Paralympic Games and millions in the UK will be watching the Diamond League,” UKA boss Jack Buckner states. “We pledge to build on this huge opportunity to rejuvenate British athletics, to restore our sport to the popularity of the golden days of the 1980s.”
