Gotham FC’s Juan Carlos Amorós was voted NWSL Coach of the Year after leading the team to its first championship appearance following a 2022 season in which the club finished with the worst record in the league (4-17-1). Here’s what you need to know:

Backstory
Before signing a three-year contract with Gotham in November 2022, Amorós served as the Houston Dash’s interim head coach from July 12, 2022 through the end of the season. He led the team to a fourth-place finish and the club’s first NWSL playoff appearance.
Before his stint in Houston, Amorós was coach of Real Betis Féminas, which plays in Spain’s top division, from 2021-22. He previously helped lead Tottenham Hotspur FC Women for nearly a decade, which included the club getting promoted to the Women’s Super League in 2019. Amorós earned Women’s Champions League Manager of the Year honors that season. He won the same award when the club was in the Women’s National League.
