NJ/NY Gotham FC announced today that Mary Wittenberg is departing her role as club president and will be transitioning to a new role as strategic advisor to ownership. Wittenberg had joined Gotham in early August following a nationwide search for a new leader of the club’s business operations.
“We are thankful for the hard work, dedication, and leadership Mary demonstrated as Club President during our championship season,” the club said in a press release.
Wittenberg’s departure as club president comes on the heels of Gotham’s first-ever National Women’s Soccer League championship win and subsequent criticism for failing to hold a timely fan-inclusive celebration event.
Gotham FC ownership will embark on a search to find a new leader of business operations. The position will be important for the club looking to grow their attendance and capitalize on the momentum of the 2023 NWSL championship win.
