Gonzaga flipped the script on No. 3 Stanford women’s basketball on Sunday, speeding past the Cardinal, 96-78. Season-high performances by Brynna Maxwell (27 points) and Yvonne Ejim (25 points, 12 rebounds) guided Gonzaga to the win.
The Bulldogs opened up an early lead thanks to the pair. Maxwell netted three from downtown and racked up 16 points, while forward Ejim shot 56-percent from the field and made all four of her free throws in the opening half. Going into the break, the Zags led 45-41.
In the third, neither team scored until almost three minutes into the quarter, with Maxwell bagging a second-chance jumper off an offensive board from Ejim. Three more 3-point shots scored in the final 90 seconds of the third extended Gonzaga’s lead to 20 (77-57), which they maintained in the fourth.
