NCAA.com Team of the Week, Georgia Tech opened Atlantic Coast Conference play with an 82-76 road win on Sunday over North Carolina, improving to 11-0 on the season, the best start to a season in program history.
The win was the first in Chapel Hill for Georgia Tech since a 56-54 victory on Feb. 12, 2012, snapping a six-game skid on the road. For the third time this season, five Yellow Jackets finished in double-figures with junior guard Tonie Morgan (23) and freshman guard Dani Carnegie (22) combining for 45 points to lead the way over the 14th-ranked Tar Heels.
North Carolina came into Sunday’s contest owning the nation’s sixth-best scoring defense, limiting its opponents to 49.5 points per game. Georgia Tech subsequently scored 50 points in the first half and finished with 82 overall, marking the most points North Carolina has allowed this season by an opponent.
