Eugenie Bouchard appears to have rediscovered happiness in both her personal life and on the tennis court. As she was recording her first main-draw win at the Mutua Madrid Open since 2017, the Canadian was supported by her boyfriend Jack Brinkley-Cook, the son of model Christie Brinkley.
Playing only her second main-draw match at WTA 1000 level since February 2019, and her first without the benefit of a wildcard in more than four years, qualifier Bouchard fought past Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska 6-7(6) 6-2 6-2 in the first round of the Mutua Madrid Open on Wednesday and booked a second-round meeting with 18th seed Martina Trevisan of Italy. As the 2014 Wimbledon finalist was reminding tennis fans of her glory days, she was cheered on by her boyfriend, who was sitting in the front row.
During the pandemic, Bouchard spent most of her time alone, and expressed that having a boyfriend would make quarantining much easier. She wrote on Twitter in March 2020: “Not complaining, but I feel like quarantine…
