Jamaica knocks Brazil out of World Cup

Jamaica has become the first Caribbean nation to make it through to the knockout round of a Women’s World Cup. In the program’s second World Cup, Jamaica fought France to a draw, collected its first-ever win at a World Cup against Panama, and have now knocked Brazil out of the tournament after a 0-0 draw.

The Brazilians were not without their chances. They:

  • Had 18 shots (8 on target) to Jamaica’s 3 (0)
  • Out-possessed their opponent by 76%
  • Completed 600 passes to the Reggae Girlz’s 236

But Jamaica goalkeeper Becky Spencer held steady and was in front of all eight of those shots on target. The result means that Marta exits her sixth and last World Cup in the group stage.
