Fulham defender Issa Diop has been arrested in France after making threats towards his wife.
Reports in local outlet La Depeche said on Monday morning that he was in police custody in Toulouse’s central police station. Diop, 26, was arrested at the Pullman hotel in Toulouse on Sunday evening.
He is in the process of separating from his wife. The alleged incident took place on a family holiday in Senegal.
His wife filed the complaint last week but investigators had to wait until this week to apprehend Diop, who usually resides in London.
A Fulham spokesperson said: “We are aware of reports emanating from France this morning regarding one of our players, Issa Diop. We are currently liaising with the player’s representatives to establish the facts.”
Diop was born in Toulouse and represented the club until 2018, when he moved to West Ham United in the Premier League. He played 96 times in the English top flight for West Ham before moving to Fulham last summer.
Diop played 25 times in the league for Fulham last season.
He represented France at youth level, making six appearances for their Under-21 side between 2016 and 2018.
