We now know that our first men’s singles semifinal will be between Lorenzo Musetti and Carlos Alcaraz.
And there could yet be another Italian in the final four of the competition, as No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner takes to the court in his quarterfinal today — another signal the nation’s tennis scene is booming.
Musetti explained why that might be, in his chat with TNT Sports:
💬 “We get asked a lot about this. It’s a combination of the stars. We are really living by having Jannik leading the tour, having Jasmine (Paolini) on the women’s side doing incredible. Having almost one finalist every week or someone who goes really far in each tournament is something that surprised everybody.
“It’s a nice job by the private teams who get supported by the federation. The thing I really like from our country is that there’s a lot of investment in our future, having a lot of tournaments in each category starting from juniors, futures, challengers and now ATP Tour. The federation is doing a great job on that.”
