New mom on tour Elina Svitolina is on a roll! Fresh off her Strasbourg title, the Ukrainian upset last year’s Roland Garros semifinalist Martina Trevisan in the first round of this year’s edition of the clay-court Grand Slam.
Svitolina’s victory at the French Open showcased her exceptional skills and determination. In a stunning display of dominance just seven months after giving birth to her first child, she not only upset the 26th-seeded player in the women’s singles draw but also achieved this feat without facing a single break point.
Formerly ranked as high as world No.3, Svitolina has been on a remarkable rise in the WTA rankings, climbing from No.508 to No.192 after her recent triumph at the Internationaux de Strasbourg. In her match against Trevisan, she impressively broke her opponent’s serve twice in each set, ultimately securing a commanding 6-2 6-2 victory in just 70 minutes.
The 28-year-old Svitolina has won 27 of her last 28 opening round matches at Grand Slams – dating back to the 2015 Australian Open. Her only loss came at Wimbledon 2018.
