The French Football Federation (FFF) will hold a crisis meeting on Tuesday with the futures of president Noel Le Graet and women’s head coach Corinne Diacre on the line after several players announced their temporary withdrawal from the national team.
Captain Wendie Renard, along with Kadidiatou Diani and Marie-Antoinette Katoto, confirmed on Friday that they would not represent France’s women’s side unless “necessary changes were implemented”.
Renard, who is widely considered one of the best defenders in women’s football, said she could “no longer support the current system” and added that she would not play at this summer’s Women’s World Cup to preserve her “mental health”.
The FFF’s executive committee will discuss the development and the futures of two of its most high-profile leaders on Tuesday morning, with a significant shake-up on the cards.
Le Graet, who has faced allegations about his private conduct which he has denied, agreed in January to “step back” from a role he took up in 2011.
But an audit commissioned by French sports minister Amelie Oudea-Castera in September over claims of sexual harassment and bullying at the FFF — denied by the organisation — is due to be analysed by the executive committee.
