Former World No.1 reflects on Alexander Zverev’s mindset

The loss against Jannik Sinner in the final of the 2025 Australian Open could have important repercussions on Alexander Zverev’s mind. The world No.2 was convinced he could play a great match on the iconic Rod Laver Arena and wanted to finally break the curse by winning his first Grand Slam title, especially after working hard in recent months to raise his level.

The truth is that the German ace was swept away by the current world number 1 in the Happy Slam final, losing in three sets and not even having a break point in the whole match. In addition to losing his third final in as many appearances in the last act of a Major tournament, Sascha realized that he was still far behind the undisputed leader of the men’s tour.
