Former Los Angeles Rams, USC coach John Robinson dies at 89

Date:

John Robinson, who spent almost a decade as the Los Angeles Rams’ head coach, died on Monday at 89.

It is reported that Robinson died of complications from pneumonia.

As the Rams’ coach, from 1983-1991, Robinson compiled a 75-68 record and became the winningest coach in franchise history during his tenure. That record stood until last month, when current Rams coach Sean McVay passed his career victory mark.

Robinson led the Rams to six playoff appearances in his first seven years. Los Angeles made it to the NFC Championship Game in two of those seasons.

Robinson also coached at the collegiate ranks. He coached two stints at USC (1976-1982; 1993-1997) and also served as UNLV’s coach from 1999-2004.

He went 132-77-4 as a college coach.

Robinson is survived by his wife, Beverly, four children, two stepchildren and 10 grandchildren.
