Former Big Ten Coach of the Year predicted to replace Villanova’s Kyle Neptune

The Villanova Wildcats made the decision to fire three-year head coach Kyle Neptune at the conclusion of their season. Since then, the school has been searching for its next coach, a process that has taken some time. However, during the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament, now-NC State head coach Will Wade hinted at a possible candidate.

“Villanova’s trying to buy a coach out who’s in the NCAA Tournament right now,” Wade said.

A name that is becoming increasingly likely to be hired is Maryland’s Kevin Willard, especially in light of his comments when asked about his future.

“I don’t know what I’m doing,” Willard said. “I haven’t talked to my agent or my wife. I made a promise to this team. I’m just focused on this team, and that’s what I’ve done. I haven’t talked to anyone. I have an agent, and I’m sure he’s talking to people. That’s what agents like to do.”

The uncertainty surrounding Willard’s response is a troubling sign for Terrapin fans, but after his latest actions, he is no longer wanted back in Baltimore. Given the ambiguity surrounding his situation, it does seem likely that a move is imminent.
