Chelsea has been fantastic this season and over the weekend they were able to lift their first trophy of the season. They defeated Manchester City 2-1 to win the Women’s League Cup. It’s the third time that Chelsea has won the League Cup, and it was their first since 2021.
Mayra Ramirez got Chelsea on the board early in the eighth minute but Manchester City was able to find the equalizer in the 64th minute from Aoba Fujino. In the 77th minute, Ramirez created the game-winner for The Blues by sending a cross into the box that took an unlucky deflection for Manchester City from Yui Hasagawa that found the back of the net.
It’s the first trophy for Sonia Bompastor as the head coach for Chelsea. With the form that Chelsea is in they have a real shot at winning the quadruple. They’re well on their way to winning the Super League title, they’re still in the race for the Champions League with the first leg of the quarterfinals taking place on March 19, and they’re into the FA Cup semi-final which is in April.
