After a decade away from Mexico, the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup is making its return to the Latin American nation.
The 10-team field was set on May 10, with the tournament comprised of squads from North and South America competing at Domo de la Feria in Leon, Mexico.
Host Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico qualified through the Centrobasket Women’s Championships, while Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela qualified from the South American Women’s Championships. Teams from Canada and the United States complete the field.
Team USA enters the tournament as the favorite, as they’re currently ranked No. 1 in the FIBA world rankings, and also No. 1 in the Americas zone. Canada, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Argentina fill out the top five in the Americas.
The USA roster is young and loaded, and features some notable names, including LSU standout Angel Reese. Reese was part of the Kim Mulkey squad that took home the women’s March Madness tournament ring in 2023.
