FIBA: What it’s like to play pro women’s basketball in Egypt, Saudi Arabia?

Back in high school, Sara Dickey was only recruited by one Division I school, Evansville. She played four seasons (2014-17) at the Missouri Valley Conference school, winning MVC Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman before earning three All-MVC nods.

Since turning pro, she’s been in high demand, playing basically all over the world. She’s a player who oftentimes flies under the radar because she always puts the team first, even when playing with inexperienced players. That’s what she did in Saudi Arabia. Just look up her stats, wherever she goes, she delivers.

At 28 years old, the humble, funny and down-to-earth Dickey says still figuring out what to do after basketball, as she discussed with Swish Appeal in a recent interview. Below are some highlights from the conversation:

On becoming the focal point of Evansville’s offense:

The coaching staff just put me in great situations and helped me see the situations on the court and also my teammates [were great]. I remember sophomore year, we had a pretty good team. My teammates and my coaching staff, they really helped me get into a very good situation. All the credit to them really.
