Entering Week 7 of EuroLeague Women group play, there are only two undefeated clubs remaining: reigning-champion Fenerbahçe Alagöz Holding and, perhaps the biggest surprise of the season thus far, DVTK HUN-Therm. They’ll play each other this week in a must-watch matchup.
While it’s little surprise that Fenerbahçe has breezed through its schedule to this point—four of the Turkish club’s six wins have come by 30 points or more, and its cumulative point differential of +190 is more than twice that of the next-best club—credit should still be given to the defending champs for reloading their roster and remaining so dominant. Fenerbahçe lost some huge names after winning last season’s EuroLeague Women championship, including Breanna Stewart, Courtney Vandersloot, Satou Sabally and Alina Iagupova, but players like Kayla McBride, Emma Meesseman and Natasha Howard have ensured that their club has retained its winning ways.
DVTK, meanwhile, has continued ascending since its EuroLeague Women debut last season, which could certainly be described as a pleasant surprise.
